The PLANMC – China’s Marine Corps

Sebastien Roblin at 1945 has a detailed look at the People’s Liberation Army Navy Marine Corps (PLANMC – yes that’s the official name). The Chinese Marines have expanded from two light brigades to six fully-equipped ones in just a few years, and have now added in special operations and aviation* components.

While the PLANMC is still building up to full strength, they have unique capabilities and deployment experience extending all the way to Africa. As the article explains, the six PLANMC brigades are complimented by six Army amphibious trained brigades specifically trained for the Taiwan campaign. Any operations against Taiwan would see both forces working in tandem to take strongpoints and then help expand beachheads for conventional PLA and PAP forces to stream through.

*We wonder if they expand the air component of the PLANMC to fighters if they’d actually end up calling it “People’s Liberation Army Navy Marines Corps Air Force
